Ethel Anstice dies Tues.

Ethel Mae Anstice who homesteaded in Lusk in 1915 died at the local hospital Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Anstice, 88, the mother of Bess Ruffing of Lusk and Edith Updike of Osage, returned to Lusk five years ago after having been gone from the community for a number of years.

The Rev. Frank Blish will preside at the funeral this Friday morning at 11:00 at Peet Mortuary Chapel.

"Memorials of your choice" is the wish of the family.

Rites Held
A service for Ethel Mae Anstice of Lusk was held last Friday at Peet Mortuary, with the Rev. Frank Blish and members of the Lusk Rebekah Lodge officiating.

Burial followed at Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Updike, John and Mike Ruffing, Jennings Ruffing Jr., Charles Smith and Dan Sherer.

Organist was Edna DeCastro and soloist was Marilyn Cockreham. Songs were "Precious Lord Take My Hand" and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken."

Mrs. Anstice, 88, died July 24 at the local hospital.

A native of Thayer County, Neb., she was raised and schooled in Nebraska.

She married John Anstice on Nov. 29, 1906, at Stockville, Neb. They lived in Alliance, where Mrs. Anstice worked in a hospital as a practical nurse.

The couple moved to Wyoming in April, 1915, settling on a homestead 25 miles north of Lusk. In 1923, the couple moved to Lusk.

She worked as a midwife in Niobrara County for many years and also worked as a health nurse with Dr. Walter Hassed. She assisted at Peet Mortuary for eight years.

The Anstices moved to Washington in 1939. After the death of her husband in 1973, Mrs. Anstice returned to Lusk to make her home.

She was a member and held various offices in Order of the Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, Hat Creek Club, Royal Valley club, Congregational Circle and the Congregational Church.

Mrs. Anstice is survived by two daughters, Edith Updike of Osage and Bess Ruffing of Lusk; a brother, Vernon Durham of Wenachee, Wash.; two sisters, Orel West of Toledo, Wash., and Zetta Cromwell of Lebanon, Ore.; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

The family asked that persons wishing to do so may contribute to the memorial of their choice.
