Charles Lund Sr. Dies here Sunday

Charles Lund Sr. 78, a resident of this area for 53 years, died in the Niobrara Memorial Hospital Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were held from the Peet Chapel in Lusk Tuesday. He had been in ill health for some time.

Mr. Lund was born in Oslo, Norway, Feb. 9, 1887, and came to America when he was 18. As soon as he could he took out naturalization papers. He was an ardent American.

In 1908 he and Myrtle McDonald were married in Deadwood, S. Dak. They made their home in the Black Hills until 1912 when they took up a homestead 12 miles east of Lusk. Mr. Lund still lived there at the time of his death.

Rev. C. W. Jervis of the First Baptist Church of Lusk officiated at the services Tuesday. Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Mrs. Lyle Eddy sang, "In The Garden" and "Have Thine Own Way Lord." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Pallbearers were: William Speerly, Roy Turnbull, Carl Bruch, Anthon Hansen, Clarence Sides, Fred Bruegger. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Lund died in 1959. Survivors include one son, Charles Lund of Node; one daughter, Mrs. Ray Freeman of Hat Creek; two sisters Mrs. Alvan Campbell and Mrs. Arthur Cooper of Lead, S. Dak.; one brother in Norway; six grandchildren, Brenda, Larry, and Kathy Lund, Kenneth and Donald Freeman and Leona Schuyler; four great-grandchildren.
