Ardice Ellen Baker

Funeral services for Ardice Ellen ( Thompson) Baker will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec.19, 1997, at the Bader Funeral Home in Lusk with Grant Ward of Wheatland officiating. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Baker passed away on Dec. 13, 1997, at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin. She was born on March 5, 1902 in Monte Vista, Colo. to James and Mary (Huff) Thompson. At a young age, Mrs. Baker moved with her family to Wilcox, MO where she received her education. In later years, she attended the University of Wyoming at Laramie and then taught school for several years in Niobrara County.

As a young adult, Mrs. Baker was a teller and notary public at a Wilcox bank; she also operated a cafe. Mrs. Baker played the violin in a local orchestra. The orchestra performed at dances and at nearby radio station. Later she moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. and then to Wyoming where she homesteaded in northwest Niobrara County. Ardice and Guy E. Baker were united in marriage in Lusk on Nov. 28, 1928. To this union four children were born: Eldon, James C., G. Robert and Judith F.

Mrs. Baker was active in homemakers clubs; she also took an active role in ranching with her husband until their retirement in 1971. They resided for a time in Douglas and Lingle; after her husband's death she moved to Lusk.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Guy in 1982, one son, Eldon in infancy, her daughter Judith in 1994, a grandson Michael in 1994 and a step-granddaughter, Shawn in 1987. Mrs. Baker's four brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her sons James C. and wife Frances of Lingle and G. Robert and wife Margaret of Hawk Springs; twelve grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials are to the family or to a memorial of the donor's choice will be appreciated by the family.

Bader Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
