George John Mundschenk

George Mundschenk, Keeline and Manville area resident since 1938, died in the Niobrara Nursing Home Friday, Sept. 24. Memorial service was conducted Tuesday at Peet Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Beauferd Anderson officiating.

George John Mundschenk was born at Richfield, Neb., July 29, 1893. In 1918 he and Frances Marie Smith were married. They were the parents of three sons and a daughter. Mrs. Mundschenk died in 1925.

Mr. Mundschenk moved his children to a farm north of Torrington, where he met and married Clara Smith Lull in 1927. They became the parents of two sons. In 1938, they left the farm and moved to Keeline where they resided until 1948 when they relocated in Manville where Mr. Mundschenk became postmaster. Clara Mundschenk died and two years later in 1952, Mr. Mundschenk and Doris Fogelstrom Ponder were married.

Mr. Mundschenk served as postmaster until 1963 when he retired at the age of 70. The couple continued living in Manville until poor health forced them to enter the nursing home in March of this year.

A long-time baptized, communicant member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mr. Mundschenk was a member of the voting assembly.

Music for the memorial service was provided by Ruth Hahn, organist and Susan Tucker and Tish La Maack who sang "By Grace I Am Saved" and "My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less."

Interment was in Valley View Cemetery at Torrington. Pallbearers were Brad Mundschenk, Paul Mundschenk, Melvin Matson, Wayne Mundschenk, Roger Jessop and Robert Barnes.

Memorials have been established to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lusk.

Mr. Mundschenk is survived by three sons, Clarence of Elk Mountain, Paul of Billings, Mont., and Harold of Palantine, Ill,; a daughter Wilma Jones of Pasadena, Calif.; six step-children, Duane Lull of Casper, Alice Conroy, of Ventura, Calif., Maxine Matson of Lander, Deloris Shepard of Laramie, Edna Wenant of Bennet, Nebr., Robert Barnes of Salt Lake City, Utah; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert who died during World War II and James.
