Carl Oehlert Found Dead Sunday Morning

Carl Owen Oehlert, 21, was found dead in his car by his brother-in-law and his 18 year old wife early Sunday morning. He was only a couple blocks from home.

According to Oehlert's brother-in-law, Jim Schwartz, Carl and his wife, Debbie, along with the two Schwartz children went to a movie Saturday night. Around 11 p.m. Oehlert returned home to drop off his wife and the Schwartz children and then went downtown.

Early Sunday morning, Oehlert's wife, Debbie called her brother and the two went looking for Carl. They found him parked across the street from the Hoy Apartments on 6th street at about 6:30 a.m. Schwartz said the body had no pulse. The car was still running.

An autopsy report is pending.

The Oehlert funeral was Wednesday at the Peet Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Chan Bayne officiated.

Oehlert was born Nov. 19, 1956 at Lawrenceville, Ill., the son of Merle and Betty Oehlert now of Lance Creek.

He attended grade school in Bridgeport, Ill., moving to Lance Creek in 1968 where he completed the eighth grade. He graduated from N.C.H.S. in 1974.

Carl and Debra Ann Schwartz of Laramie were married Dec. 9, 1977. He was employed by Uranium Exploration of Tulsa, Okla., working in Casper under Dewey Ellsworth.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mattie R. Oehlert.

He is survived by his wife Debra; his parents, Merle and Betty Oehlert of Lance Creek; one brother, Terry Ray of Torrington; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Newlin of St. Francisville, Ill.; and Carl A. Oehlert of McLeansboro,; parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schwartz of Laramie; brothers and sisters-in-law James Lee, Jay Ryan and Amy Schwartz of Laramie and Dan Schwartz of Denver.

The music was provided by Minerva Watson, organist; Carolyn Hammond, Cindy Mosier singers. Songs were "Jesus and Me" and "What a Day That Will Be."

Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mark Green, Bret Thompson, Dan Hawley, Andy Serres, Kit Moore, Dennis Peterson, Chuck Sides and Ted Stratton.
