Lee Penn Dies Service was Here Monday

Funeral services for Leo "Lee" Clayton Penn, 78, was held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Peet Chapel. Mr. Penn died July 11 at Hot Springs, S.D.

The service was conducted by the Rev. Robert Boutwell with Mrs. Pete Germann and Mrs. Paul Morgan singing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond The Sunset." Organist was Mrs. A. F. DeCastro.

Honorary pallbearers were Walter Schnorenberg, Lue Osborn, Ed Cook, Art Thompson, Burr Bryant, Melvin Miller Andrew McMaster, Ed Plumb and John Mudra.

Casket bearers were James Potter, Willard Frye, John Hammond, Charles Vaughan, Al Taylor and Otto Krekeler. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery with military honors by Weiten Dupes Post #4 American Legion of Lusk and Bryant Kant, V.F.W. 10390 of Lance Creek and Manville.

Leo Clayton Penn, son of Hezekiah and Anna Lewis Penn was born on April 28, 1896, at Middleburg, Neb.

He grew to manhood and attended schools in the Middleburg area moving to Lusk in 1916. He homesteaded in the Hat Creek area. In 1918 he enlisted in the U S Army serving in France during World War I.

In the 1920's he returned to Lusk doing road work for the state, carpentry work and ranch work. He operated ranches east of Hat Creek and in the North Divide area. From 1934 to 1939 he was on a ranch northeast of Sandpoint, Idaho.

He then moved back to Lusk where he owned and operated a general trucking business. In 1956 he sold that business and moved to Casper where he was employed as a carpenter. He retired in 1961 and returned to Lusk.

He married Anna Blanch Mudra January 28, 1918, and she died in 1957. His parents, five brothers and sisters also died previously.

He was married to Pauline Morton Jackson May 18, 1959. He is survived by his wife; one daughter Zelma Powell, Victorville, Calif.; five step-children, Victor Jackson, Evansville; Charlotte Pfister and Levona Wiggins, Lusk; Ed Jackson, Riverton and Elvin Jackson, Lander; one sister Velda Miller, Lusk; 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
