Elmer Postel, 50-yr. Resident, Dies Friday

Funeral service for Elmer C. Postel, a resident of Niobrara County for fifty years, was held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Peet Mortuary Chapel.

Mr. Postel, 72, died at his home in Lusk May 22.

The Rev. Fred Bolinger, First Baptist Church, conducted the service and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro accompanied the soloist, Tim Johnson, as he sang "Sunrise" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Milton Himes, Burr Bryant, A. F. DeCastro, C. E. Marvin, Harry Austin and Jim Potter, Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Postel was born in Buchanan County, Iowa August 12, 1900 to James and Fanny Postel. At the age of 16 he enlisted in Co. H, 1st Iowa Infantry and later transferred to the 42nd (Rainbow Division) where he served until the end of World War I. Major battles he took part in were Champagne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel and Meuse Argonne.

In January of 1922 he married Lorena Lumsden. Shortly after the marriage they moved to Wyoming where he followed different occupations until 1945 when he started working for the Continental Oil Company at Lance Creek. He continued working there until his retirement in 1958 because of ill health and they moved to Lusk.

January 25, 1973, Mr. and Mrs. Postel observed their 51st wedding anniversary.

Survivors are his wife and three daughters, Violet Himes of Tucson, Ariz., Nada Mason of Casper and Ramona Lewis of Newberg Park, Calif.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Eva James of Tucson and two brothers, James of Millersburg, Iowa and George of Evansdale, Iowa.
