Shannon Reed killed instantly in car accident

Funeral service for Shannon Lea Reed, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Reed and granddaughter of Mrs. Betty Reed and Mrs. Rita Swope, Lusk was held Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Lander.

Miss Reed was one of three young women killed instantly in an automobile accident April 23 northwest of Lander when the Volkswagen she was driving skidded sideways and was struck broadside by a Camaro driven by Patrick O'Neal, 18.

O'Neal was taken to Casper in critical condition and the two passengers in his car, Roderick Quina, 17, and Ronald Snyder, 17, were hospitalized in Lander. All three boys were from Ft. Washakie.

The two passengers in the Reed car, Terri Jean McCormick, 17, of Lander, Candice Griswold, 19, of Rawlins were also killed in the crash.

Rev. Gilbert Moore officiated at the service for Miss Reed and Sandy Del Monte sang "My Wild Irish Rose" and "Nearer My God To Thee." Mrs. Gilbert Moore was the accompanist. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Shannon was born July 10, 1957, at Hot Springs, S.D. The family home is now Mill Creek near Lander. She attended Mill Creek Junior High near Lander and attended Lander High School.

She was active in 4-H Club work, rode in the Junior Sheriff's Posse for several years and participated in Farm Bureau Youth activities, being first runner-up for Fremont County Farm Bureau Queen in 1974.

Survivors include her parents; a brother Tom and a sister Tamara of the family home, and two grandmothers.
