Daniel Charles Reinecke

Daniel Charles Reinecke, 82, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Providence Hospital surrounded by family and friends and the very caring staff of Providence Hospital, who became friends of the family.

Daniel was born April 12, 1919 in Lusk, Wyoming. He graduated from high school with the class of 1937. He served with the United States Navy on the USS Alywin during WWII, where he fought in every major battle in the Pacific and participated in the rescue of the survivors of the USS Indianapolis.

He married Arlene Diethrich in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Thereafter the family moved to Tucson, Arizona, then to Woodburn, Oregon before settling in Anchorage, Alaska in 1981, a place he loved dearly. His appreciation of its beauty never ceased.

Dan was a strong Christian who was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather, loved and adored by his family and admired by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He taught his family strength, honor, loyalty, respect and love. We are comforted with the knowledge that he has joined his family in heaven that have passed on before him and has found great joy, happiness and peace.

He was a master craftsman who spent his life building homes, cabinets and a large array of finish carpentry work, having provided heirloom furniture for all members of his family. Working with wood was his passion and playing pool with his family and friends was his greatest hobby. He was willing to share his techniques with all who enjoyed many hours around the pool table with him.

Daniel Reinecke is survived by his wife, Arlene of Anchorage, son Michael and wife Mary Ann Reinecke of Las Vegas, daughter Kathy and husband Jeff Wood, daughter Pamela and her husband Jeff Gregg, daughter Valerie and husband Bob Glorioso, all of Anchorage and grandchildren and great-grandchildren in several states.

The family and friends gathered to celebrate his life on Friday, June 29, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial on Anchorage Park strip.
