Melvin D. Shepard

Funeral services for Melvin D. Shepard were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday the 4 of November in the Peet Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Mark Lohr officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Shepard, age 84, died Wednesday morning at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital in Lusk. He was born April 17, 1904, in David, Iowa, the son of Austin and Rosella Shepard.

He married Mary Wilson in July 1954. She preceded him in death on April 12, 1972. They had no children.

Mr. Shepard had worked mostly as a welder in the construction business. He was involved in the building of several large dams. He had lived in California, Colorado, South Dakota and Montana before moving to Manville, Wyoming. He moved to Lusk in 1948.

He was a member of the Open Bible Church in Lusk.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and three brothers.

Survivors include: a close friend Thelma Carlisle, who had taken care of Melvin since he suffered a stroke in 1976; two brothers, Harold Shepard of Huron, S.D., and John Shepard of Albene, S.D.; two sisters, Hazle Menning of Huron, S. D. and Fay Stenemon of Loveland, Colorado; plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

For those who wish, memorials to St. Joseph's Children's Home in Torrington will be appreciated by the family.
