Roy Beard, 72, Found Dead in Storm Friday

Roy Beard, 72, a resident of Wyoming for 50 years, was found dead alongside of the old Lance Creek road, six miles north of Lusk, at 3:45 p.m. Friday by his friend and neighbor, Ernest Hansen. He had evidently been stricken with a heart attack while walking to care for his sheep during the storm. His pickup had been stuck since the storm the previous day.

Funeral services were held from the Peet Chapel Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. James Davis of the Congregational church officiating.

Mrs. J. P. Watson, organist, accompanied Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Mrs. Robert Smith as they sang "Rock of Ages" and "Beneath the Cross of Jesus".

Casket bearers were Bill Magoon, Roger Bonsell, Ernest Hansen, H. P. Klemke, Criss Jassman and Henry Klemke.

Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery with the Lusk Veterans of Foreign Wars conducting military services.

Mr. Beard was born May 11, 1894 in Kahoka, Mo., to Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Beard. The family first moved to Waterbury, Nebr., and 50 years ago this fall came to Wyoming and took up a homestead on the land which Mr. Beard owned at the time of his death, seven miles north of Lusk.

Mr. Beard was a veteran of World War I having served in France for a year. He never married and his only close surviving relative is a sister, Mrs. Mary G. Poole of Santa Marie, Calif. She was in Lusk for the funeral.
