Anna Elvera Titchener

Vera Titchener, 81, died at the Community Hospital in Torrington on Tuesday. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 Saturday morning, July 24, at the United Presbyterian Church in Torrington with the Rev. Mary Bahmer and the Rev. John Bruington officiating.

Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 56 at Veteran.

Anna Elvera "Vera" Titchener was born January 30, 1901, at Madrid, Neb., the daughter of Luther and Mary (Quarnberg) McCormick. She attended school at Madrid and then received her teaching certificate at Grant, Neb. On December 28, 1921 she married Louis Titchener at Madrid.

The couple moved to a homestead near Veteran in 1928. They moved to Torrington in 1949. Mrs. Titchener operated cafes in Yoder and Torrington. She retired in 1963. Mr. Titchener preceded her in death in 1976. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Torrington where she also was a member of The United Presbyterian Women's Association. She has held all the offices in The American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 56 at Veteran and she was a past president of District No. 2 of The American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include four daughters, LuThera Fullmer of Lingle, Darlene Daiss of Cheyenne, Gayle Witt of Orlando, Fla., and Mary Jane Duryee of Great Falls, Mont.; three sons, Melvin Titchener of Colorado Springs, Colo., Calvin Titchener of Montrose, Colo. and Alvin Titchener of Lusk; two brothers, Victor McCormick of Grant, Neb., and Claude McCormick of Albany, Ore.; two sisters, Bernice Hillary of Boise, Idaho and Winnie Shoemaker of Veteran; 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, those preceding her in death were five infant daughters, five brothers, one grandson and one great-grandson.
