Frances Torkelson

Frances Torkelson, age 93, a long-time resident of Lusk, passed away Feb. 21, 2005, at the United Medical Center West, in Cheyenne.

Frances was born in Lovelady, Tex., June 30, 1911 to Clute E. and Rena Belle Rich Rayburn. She married Oliver Eugene Torkelson, MD and had two sons, Richard Eugene Torkelson, MD of Cheyenne; Anthony Rayburn Torkelson, MD of St. Louis, Missouri; and one daughter, Cynthia Ann Bailey of Flower Mound, Tex. She had eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Frances was the Niobrara County Librarian for many years and held memberships in the Woodbine Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Lusk PEO, Chapter C for 50 years and the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority at Northwestern University, where she graduated with a degree in theater.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver and one sister, Marquerite Martin.

Funeral services were held Friday at 10 a.m., Feb. 25, at the Ascension Lutheran Church, with Pastor Paul Everett officiating. Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m., at the Lusk Cemetery.

Pall bearers included Jim Bailey, Mike Dudley, Bret Close, Mike Hirsig, Wade Johnson, Greg Cubel, Mike Smith, Chris Torkelson, and Phillip Russell.
