Jacob Wahl Dies In Lusk Monday

Jacob Wahl, 77, a resident of Niobrara County for 43 years, died in the Spencer Hospital Monday morning. Mr. Wahl had injured his right hand in a buzz saw July 10 while sawing wood at his home in north Lusk. Later an infection set in which proved to be fatal.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Peet Chapel with the Rev. Frank Bozart in charge. Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Mrs. Lyle Eddy sang "the Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist. Pallbearers were: Albert Penn, C. E. Marvin, Albert Ruffing, Jim McGinnis, C. A. David, and Eddie Mark. Honorary bearers were: Dudley Fields, Henry Wasserburger, Lee Penn, Glen Riley, Pat Miller, Woodson Graham, and Henry Ruffing. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Wahl was born in Clay County, Nebraska September 5, 1883. He moved with his family to North Dakota where he married Cordelia Opal Hutson May 2, 1913. They came to Niobrara County in April 1918, homesteading 37 miles north of Lusk in the Buck Creek Hills. They moved to Lusk in 1931. Mr. Wahl was a rural mail carrier for a time, carrying mail to the Warren Post Office. He was employed several years at the Lusk Elevator and also worked as a common laborer.

Survivors include his two children, Mrs. Gordon Barrett of Casper and Harold J. Wahl of Lusk; three sisters, Mrs. Leslie Bauer and Mrs. Clara Moore, Sutton, Nebr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Ulmer, Oak, N. Dak.; a brother, Gus Wahl, Forman, N. Dak.; and a grandson, Thomas Neal Barrett of Casper.
