Selma DeSersa Rogina

Selma (DeSersa) Rogina passed away on March 7, 2007 at Worland after a lengthy illness. Selma was born to Selmer and Nina Jessie May (Jarvis) Evenson on May 1, 1926, in Presho, S.D. She graduated from Central High School in Rapid City, S.D. She continued her education by attending nursing school in Rapid City.

Selma was married to Leo William DeSersa in 1946 in Rapid City and unto this union three children were born: Nina Achenbach of Sultan, Wash.; Delores Felzien, formerly of Los Angeles and Selmer DeSersa of Worland. The family moved to Lusk in 1950, where four more children were born: Arlene Smith of Worland; Kathy Brown of Big Springs, Neb.; Doris Johnson of Meadowdale; and Liz Ogle of Brush, Colo.

She married Edward Rogina on Nov. 17, 1959 and unto this union three more children were born: Gene Rogina of Lusk, Evie Gerber of Worland and Carrie Kraft of Lusk.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Selma was a hard worker and worked at several jobs in Lusk and at one time she held down three jobs to support her children She was a woman of strong conviction and faith. She retired from the Niobrara Nursing Home, where she was one of the first in Niobrara County to receive a CNA license. She spent her life taking care of others. Her hobbies were crocheting, listening to Jim Reeves albums, crossword puzzles and reading the Bible and detective magazines. Her favorite saying in times of trouble was "Now what does the Bible say about that?"

Selma is survived by nine of her ten children, 23 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren; her sister, Julia Zimmerchied of Sundance; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Selmer and Nina; three brothers, Wayne, Carol and Dwayne; her husband, Ed Rogina; one daughter, Delores Felzien; five grandsons; two granddaughters; and one nephew, Fred Zimmerchied.

Services were held at 2 p.m. March 12, at the First Baptist Church in Lusk, with Pastor Tom Strock officiating. Interment will be at the Lusk Cemetery.

To continue her tradition of "helping others", memorials may be made to the Niobrara County Ministerial Fund, PO Box 959, Lusk, WY 82225, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
