Calvin Bennett Ferris Dies At Lost Springs Home Last Saturday

Calvin Bennett Ferris passed away at the home of Fred Van DeWalker, 18 miles north of Lost Springs, shortly after midnight, Saturday morning, October 3rd at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 3 days. Mr. Ferris was a sufferer from uremic poisoning and had been seriously ill for about a week before his death.

Deceased was a native of Illinois, and his early life was spent in that state. He married there, and to this union two children were born, both of whom survive.

Following the death of his first wife, Mr. Ferris moved to Kansas City, Mo., in 1903 and in the following year was married to Nettie Van DeWalker. To this union three children were born, two of whom survive.

Last February the family came from Missouri to make their home with the Van DeWalker's, and have resided at that home since.

The remains were taken in charge by George Earl Peet, mortician, of this city and funeral services were held under his direction at the Peet funeral home Sunday afternoon, October 4th. Rev. B. F. Farrar, pastor of the First Baptist church of this city officiated, and the remains were then conveyed to the Jireh cemetery, where interment was made.

Calvin Bennett Ferris was born at Ipava, Ill. July 30, 1860, and passed away August 3rd, 1931. (As printed in Lusk Free Lance) Thus having attained the ripe age of 71 years, 2 months and 3 days.

Mr. Ferris spent the early part of his life, in Illinois and was married and raised two children by his first wife. They are Mrs. Minnie Palmer of Kansas City, Mo. and a son Jesse Ferris of Chicago.

He went to Kansas City, Mo., in 1903 and in 1904 was married to Nettie Van DeWalker. Of this union three children were born, two of whom survive him. They are Floyd and Gladys who are present today.

Last February the family moved from Kansas City, Mo. and came to Lost Springs Wyoming, where they have since resided on a farm 18 miles north of town, owned by Mrs. Ferris' brother. Mr. Ferris was a plasterer by trade.

Mr. Ferris took ill a week ago and passed away just after midnight Saturday morning October 3rd.

There remain to mourn his departure beside his wife and two children, three brothers, one of whom lives in Oregon, one in Oklahoma and one in Canada; and three sisters, one of whom lives in Ipava, Ill., one in Florence, Kansas and one in Iowa.

Mr. Ferris was a member of the Christian church and was faithful to his Savior and Lord. We commend his Savior to all who this day mourn his departure.

Funeral services were held from the funeral home of George Earl Peet Sunday afternoon, October 4th, 1931. Rev. B. F. Farrar, pastor of the First Baptist church of Lusk, preached the sermon from the text Heb. 4:9: "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God."

Interment was made in the Jireh cemetery, where the body awaits the Resurrection Morn.
