Olive Stewart, 3rd Child Born In Early Lusk Dies

Thon book No. 7

Death came peacefully to Mrs Olive B. Stewart at the Spencer Hospital Monday morning, Jan. 26 at 11:30 o'clock, after a long illness. She had been a patient in the hospital for the past eight months.

Olive Luella Berggren was the daughter of Louis and Nellie Berggren, pioneers of the Wyoming territory. She was born Aug. 28, 1887 and is a native of this community, being the third white child born in the new town of Lusk.

She received her education in the rural and Lusk schools and in 1904 was enrolled at the Lincoln Conservatory of Music where she received musical training.

June 16, 1909 she was married to George R. Hargrove, in the Episcopal Church at Douglas and they are the parents of two daughters, Olive Estelle now Mrs. Lyman Hargraves of Worland, Wyo., and Irma Louise, now Mrs. Leao Kirlin of Evanston, Wyo.

During the first flu epidemic to sweep the country, Mr. Hargrove was among the victims, dying Dec. 3, 1918.

Mr. and Mrs. Hargrove were engaged in ranching north of Lusk and after her husband's death Mrs. Hargrove continued to operate the ranch until her daughters were ready to enter high school. They then moved to Lusk.

On June 3, 1926 she was married at Douglas, Wyo. to Edward M. Stewart, who died June 8, 1939 and she was again left a widow.

Besides her two daughters, Mrs. Stewart is survived by a sister, Mrs. Inez Gorsuch of Philadelphia, Pa., a brother, John Berggren of Lusk and two grandchildren, Deann and Bruce Hargraves of Worland. Two baby sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 28 at 2:00 o'clock from the Peet Chapel with the Rev. Raymond P. Hoffman, Jr. pastor of St. George's Episcopal Church officiating.

The songs, "Long, Long Trail" and "Now The Day Is Over" were sung as a duet by Mrs. Edna DeCastro and Mrs. Maude Bonner. Mrs. J. P. Watson presided at the chapel organ. The casket bearers were: John Goddard, Dudley Fields, J. P. Costlow, Ed Hesco, Rulo Roberts and Brent Bruch. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Out-of-town relatives here for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Leao Kirlin of Evanston, Wyo., Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Hargraves and children of Worland and Mrs. Carrie Carpenter of Murdo, S. Dak. Mrs. Kirlin had been at her mother's bedside for the week prior to her death.
