Mrs. Caley, Early Wyoming Resident, Dies in Casper

Mrs. Martha Caley, resident of Lusk for many years, died at her home in Casper on Saturday, Apr. 1st after an illness of several weeks.

Funeral services were held on her 65th birthday, Monday, Apr. 3 at the Stark Mortuary in Douglas and burial was made in the family plot beside her husband, Dell D. Caley, who died in Lusk, Dec. 12, 1944, with interment being made in the Douglas cemetery.

Martha Hamilton was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Hamilton and was born at Ft. Laramie, Wyoming, April 3, 1885. Her early childhood was spent on a ranch on the Platte River known as the Government Farm. The family moved into Douglas while she was still a young girl and here she received her elementary and high school education and attended college at Colorado Springs and Pittsburg, Pa., the latter place being her mother's old home.

In 1905 she was married to Dell D. Caley at the family home and they became the parents of two daughters, both of whom survive. From 1908 to 1916 Mr. Caley traveled for the Amberson Hydraulic Company and during those years the family lived in a number of eastern and southern states.

Moving back to Wyoming in 1917 Mr. Caley became bookkeeper at the LeBar Garage in Douglas and later at the Douglas Mercantile. He and Mrs. Caley then owned and operated their own grocery business until 1929 when they purchased an interest in the Snyder Mercantile company of Lusk and moved here to make their home. After this business closed out Mr. Caley purchased the Best Grocery which became known by the firm name of "Caley's" which he operated until ill health forced him to retire. After his death Mrs. Caley continued to make Lusk her home until about three years ago when she sold her home here to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stigle and moved to Casper where she bought a duplex house.

She has been preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and a grandson.

Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Mary Allyn of Cheyenne and Mrs. Della Chriezer of Seattle, Wash., and a sister, Mrs. Artie LeBar of Douglas and a grandson, John Trenholm of Seattle, Wash., and a granddaughter, Della Allyn of Cheyenne.
