When World War I broke out, Fred enlisted immediately and served in the infantry at various locations in the United States. He was discharged at Ft. Russell, now Ft. Francis E. Warren, in Cheyenne.

Fred returned to Node and again went to work for the railroad.

He married Hazel Irene Anderson at Node in 1921, and two years later they moved to Lusk, where they have been living ever since. They celebrated their 50th anniversary Sept. 28.

Fred was a member of the Weiten-Dupes American Legion Post in Lusk and was a past commander. He also belonged to St. George's Episcopal Church here.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Hazel Nelson of Glenrock, Velma Fore of Casper and Marjorie Lee of Billings; a sister, Carrie Williamson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Daniel and Godfrey; and a sister, Helen.

A 2 p.m. Wednesday service was scheduled at Peet Mortuary, with the Rev. Charles Wallis officiating.

Burial was to follow at Lusk Cemetery, with military honors provided by members of the Wieten-Dupes legion post.
