Death Notice - Rod Hoyt

Memorial services for Rod Hoyt, 72, of Lusk, will be March 6, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Pier Funeral Home in Lusk. Graveside services will be March 8, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Clay Center Cemetery in Clay Center, Neb. Mr. Hoyt passed away March 3, 2008, at the Niobrara Health and Life Center in Lusk. A full obituary will follow. Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rod Hoyt

Rod Hoyt of Lusk, formerly of Clay Center, Neb., died at home March 3, 2008. Memorial services were held at Pier Funeral Home in Lusk on March 6, 2008.

Rod Hoyt was born in Fairfield, Nebr. on Sept. 15, 1935 to Clyde and Ann (Neester) Hoyt. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years on various submarines during the Korean War. He continued his service as a member of the American Legion Post 87 in Clay Center, Neb. While in Lusk he was Veteran Volunteer of the Year for that American Legion Post. He married Donna Head of Clay Center, Neb. in November of 1962.

Rod was formerly employed as a mechanic for a truckline and as manager of the Pioneer Court Motel in Lusk. He loved driving truck.

His achievements and accomplishments include serving on the Nebraska State Board of Water Resources and the board of Hastings Technical Community College. He earned his pilots license in 1973.

Rod Hoyt is survived by his wife Donna of Lusk; his children Roland "Mike" Hoyt of California; Sherry Hoyt Dubeil of California; Terri Alberts and companion Jeff Kipp of Hastings, Neb.; Kim Wayson and husband Mike of Maryland; Jeffrey Blake Hoyt and wife Gina of Texas; one sister, Midge Moorehouse of Gering, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy; his parents; a sister, Bonnie; and three brothers: Wilbur, Wallace, and Larry Hoyt.

Burial was March 8, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Clay Center Cemetery in Clay Center, Neb. Honorary pallbearers are all of his buddies from the Lusk Senior Center.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lusk Senior Center, the American Legion, or the Veteran's Administration.
