Otto Hitchcock, County Resident 45 Years, Dies Sat.

Otto James Hitchcock, 78, rancher in north Niobrara County for over 40 years, died Saturday morning at the Spencer Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday with burial in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Hitchcock was the son of James and Nellie Hitchcock, born June 10, 1872 in Dodge County, Nebr. He spent his boyhood in that community.

On March 26, 1894 at Fremont, Nebr., he married Elizabeth Pauline Looker. One son, Arthur J. Hitchcock, was born to them.

A few years after their marriage the family moved to South Dakota and then in 1905 to Wyoming, homesteading the Niobrara County ranch. Mrs. Hitchcock died December 23, 1939. In 1943 he left the homestead to come into Lusk to retire.

He was a member of Harmony Masonic Lodge for many years and the services of that lodge were held at the grave Monday with C. E. Marvin presiding, and the lodge members attending in a body.

Rev. Frank Schweissing, pastor of the Baptist Church, had charge of the services at the Peet Mortuary. Those assisting with the music were Mrs. H. J. Templeton, Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, Don Unruh and Rex Yocum, with Mrs. J. P. Watson, organist. Pallbearers were Ray Reed, Jim Reed, Ed Pfister, Paul McDaniels, Ray DeGering, and Albert DeGering.

Surviving are three brothers and one sister; Albert Hitchcock and Russel Hitchcock of Conde, S. Dak.; Arthur Hitchcock of Toledo, Ohio; and Mrs. Flavia Engler, Salem, Ore.; his son and daughter-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Hitchcock; and four grand-daughters: Ruth Fleming and Rose Wolfe of Lusk; Fern Wolfe of Lance Creek, and Ruby Brown of Sidney, Nebr.
