Funeral Services Accorded Mrs. William Spencer

Funeral services for Mrs. William L. Spencer, a long-time resident of Niobrara County, were held September 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Methodist Church of Edgemont, with Rev. Robert C. Todd officiating.

Mrs. Paul Russell and Mrs. Marvin Cummings sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Abide With Me,", accompanied by Mrs. H. L. Thompson at the organ. The beautiful ritual of the Rebekah Lodge was conducted by the Noble Grand, Esther Rounds, the Vice Grand, Sara Bryant, and the Chaplain, Rachel Bannerman, of the Hesperian Lodge No. 18. "The Old Rugged Cross" was sung.

Interment was in the Edgemont cemetery. Casket bearers were Gail Weaver, Donald Burton, Sam Rennard, Ed Rumney, Joe Kane and Dave Bryant.

Della Benn Morse was born July 9, 1890, daughter of Edward and Mary Morse, near Turin, Iowa. She died September 13, 1954 at Newcastle. Her early life was spent in Iowa and in 1817 the family moved to Wyoming and homesteaded in the Mule Creek vicinity.

She married William L. Spencer February 20, 1920 at Hot Springs. They had one daughter, who died at birth, and two sons. The couple have always lived at their ranch home in the Cheyenne River community. For many years Mrs. Spencer served as postmistress of the Spencer postoffice. In recent years the postoffice has been closed.

Mr. and Mrs. Spencer took an active interest in community life and Mrs. Spencer became a charter member of the Cheyenne River Extension Club, of which she was president at the time of her death. She was also secretary of the Hesperian Lodge No. 18 of the Rebekah Lodge of Edgemont.

Survivors include: her husband, William L. Spencer; two sons, Leslie Morse of Burns, Wyo. and Edward Morse of Lusk; three sisters, Mrs. Harold Smith, Pavilion, Wyoming, Mrs. Helen Price, San Francisco, Cal., and Mrs. Mary Miller, Lusk; three brothers, Mortimer Morse, Downey, Cal., John J. Morse, Detroit, Mich., and Newton R. Morse, Midwest; and several nieces and nephews.

Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were: Mrs. Harold Smith, Pavillion; Mrs. Eddie Lockwood and Linda and Harry Morse, Midwest; Mrs. Eleanor Greene, Cody; Mr. and Mrs. Gomer W. Bailey and family, Denver; Sam Spencer, Eaton, Colo.; and Mr. and Mrs. Huddleston, St. Joseph, Mo.
