Manville Pioneer Woman Dies in Douglas Sept. 10

Mrs. Ida Burkett, a Manville pioneer, died at her home in Douglas Sept. 10, at the age of 93. Funeral services were held at Manville Sept. 13, with the Rev. A. Ray Henry of the Douglas First Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the family plot in the Manville cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carl Baughn, Marion Rasmussen, Fred Kettler, E. C. Schuricht, Lee Stoddard, all of Manville and Bud Cantwell of Lusk.

Ida Eliza Burkett was the daughter of Jacob and Anna Foote and was born Dec. 25, 1860 at Wheeling, W. Va. She was married to Charles H. Burkett Oct. 26, 1878 at Machinaw, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Burkett and their three daughters moved from Danville, Ill., to Manville in June, 1888, where they homesteaded. They engaged in ranching and farming there for more than 57 years. Since 1945, Mrs. Burkett has resided in Douglas.

Her husband preceded her in death, May 7, 1933, at Manville. Surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Della Wessels, Chicago, Mrs. Arthur Bross, Omaha and Mrs. Eldon T. Alvord, Douglas; four sisters, seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were: Mrs. Arthur Bross, Omaha, Mrs. and Mrs. E. M. Neilsen, Columbus, Nebr., Mrs. Everett Sanders, Cheyenne and Burkett H. McCreery, Pittsburg, Calif.
