Mrs. Josie Harris Dies Sat. in Colo.

Mrs. Josie Harris, wife of A. T. Harris of Denver died in that city Saturday, June 7 after a lingering illness.

Mrs. Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Baker was reared in Manville and spent her young ladyhood in this community.

After her marriage to Mr. Harris they moved to Denver where they have resided for many years.

The body was shipped to Douglas where it was met by the hearse from the Peet Mortuary.

Funeral services were conducted from the Manville church on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the Congregational church of Lusk officiating, with interment in the Manville cemetery.

Funeral service for Josephine Harris at Manville Wednesday

Funeral services were conducted at the Manville Church Wednesday, June 11, at 2 p.m. for Josephine B. Harris, who died June 7 in Denver, Colorado.

The Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the Congregational Church of Lusk, officiated at the services. Burial was made in the Manville cemetery with the following acting as pallbearers: Lee Stoddard, Carl Baughn, Roy ZumBrunnen, Robert Burhoop, Clint Dern and Fred Kettler.

George Gibson sang, "Crossing the Bar" accompanied by Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, who provided the organ music for the service. A quartet composed of Mrs. Beryl Fullerton, Mrs. Lee Stoddard, Mrs. Carl Baughn and Mrs. Howard sang, "Beautiful Isle," "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Josephine Baker Harris, daughter of Angus B. and Clara Augusta (Spaugh) Baker, was born in Marion County, Kansas on Nov. 2, 1882.

Her early life was spent in Kansas where she graduated from School. In 1903, she came with her parents to what was then Converse County, Wyo., and entered the livestock business, principally in the area from Manville north to the Lance Creek country. She was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church.

She was married to A. T. Harris on June 19, 1909 at Hot Springs, S. Dak. Mr. and Mrs. Harris continued in the livestock business extensively in this county. This county was their home until 1934, when they moved to Denver. Even after that change in location, Mrs. Harris operated a small sheep ranch in Colorado for eight years.

Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her father in 1915, and by her mother in 1943. Survivors include her husband, A. T. Harris of Denver; two brothers, Benny Baker, Saratoga and Charles E. Baker, Bellingham, Wash.; an aunt, Mrs. Rosa D. Blair, Manville and a cousin, Mrs. Nettie D. Sullivan, Denver.

Those here to attend the funeral services for Mrs. Harris include: Mamie Rogers of Denver, Nettie Sullivan, Denver and Mrs. Kenneth Taylor of Alliance, Nebr.

Pioneer Woman, Mrs. A. T. Harris, Passes Away Saturday, in Denver; Last Services Held Here Wednesday.

Concluding rites were held at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, June 11, at the chapel of the Peet Funeral home for the late Mrs. Josephine Harris, wife of A. T. Harris of Denver, Colo., and one of the last few remaining pioneers. Officiating at the rites was Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the Congregational Church of Lusk.

During the services, three selections, "Beautiful Isle,""In the Garden," and "The Old Rugged Cross," were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Fullerton, Mesdames H. D. Howard, Lee Stoddard, and Carl Baughn. George Gibson sang as a solo, "Crossing the Bar." Mrs. A. F. DeCastro presided at the chapel organ.

Interment was made in the Manville cemetery with Clint Dern, Fred Kettler, Roy ZumBrunnen, Lee Stoddard, Carl Baughn, Robert Burhoop and Sam Blaney acting as casketbearers. Honarary pallbearers were Sam Joss, T. L. Cantwell, H. D. Howard, Orville Dryer, Jim Allsup and Marion Rasmussen.

After this marriage Mr. and Mrs. Harris continued in the livestock business extensively in Niobrara County, Wyo., and it was their home until 1934 when they moved to Denver, Colorado and even after that change in location Mrs. Harris operated a small sheep ranch in Colorado for eight years.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1915, and by her mother in 1943. Survivors are her husband, two brothers, Benny Baker of Saratoga, Wyo., and Charles E. Baker of Bellingham, Wash., an aunt, Mrs. Rosa D. Blair of Manville and one cousin, Mrs. Nettie D. Sullivan of Denver.

Mrs. Harris was a long-time member of the Presbyterian church. She was a person of great ambition and while she accomplished many things in the management of her favorite business, the livestock business, she also made many friends, people who shall miss her and her cheerful disposition.
