Clarence Vernon, County Resident Since 1909, Dies

Clarence B. Vernon, 79, died at the Lusk Hospital Monday, January 28, after being in declining health for a number of years.

For the past eight years he has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Roy F. Elder of Keeline.

His only living relative is a sister, seven years his senior, who resides at Cherokee, North Carolina, and two nephews and two nieces. A rather strange coincidence was that his sister's husband, Joseph DeWees, died at the same hour that Mr. Vernon passed away.

Funeral services for Mr. Vernon were held in the Peet Chapel Tuesday morning at 11:00 o'clock, and the remains were shipped to Parker, South Dakota, where graveside services were held and he was buried beside his wife.

Mrs. Elder accompanied the body to Parker.

Clarence B. Vernon was born at Viola, Iowa, September 3. 1866. His mother died when he was two years old. His father re-married, but he died also when the boy was ten years of age, after which he was raised by his grandparents and other relatives.

October 3, 1894, Mr. Vernon was married to Effie F. Darling at Parker, South Dakota. One son was born to them, Willard Clarence. When he was seven years old his mother died.

In 1909 Mr Vernon came to Wyoming and homesteaded five miles southwest of Keeline, where he made a home for himself and son. The son died in September of 1930, so the father was left alone.
