A celebration of the life of Gordon "Gordy" Gropp, age 60, will be at 11:00 a.m. Sat., Nov. 29, 2008, at the Niobrara Country Club west of Lusk, Wyo. He passed away Nov. 21 in Lusk.
Gordon Wesley Gropp was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada, Oct. 3, 1948 to Ken and Betty (Shelstad) Gropp. He and his family moved to Montana when he was 1 year old. Gordie grew up on a farm/ranch and graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1966. He attended Shasta College in Redding California. He then moved to Lusk, Wyoming with family.
Gordie married Juanda Letchworth in 1974. They later divorced. Gordie worked in the oil fields in Alaska and overseas. He bought/sold equipment and ran his own business.
Gordie was close to his family and enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter in Nebraska and friends in Lusk. Golfing, playing cards and horse racing were his favorite hobbies.
He is survived by his daughter Tia (Darren) Schmidt and granddaughter Piper Schmidt of Friend, Nebraska; sisters Edith (W.J. Butch) Wieland of Sheridan, Wyoming and Keni (Ron Cundall of Gillette, Wyoming; nephew Kole Wieland of Beverton, Oregon; nieces Shyla Cundall of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Shawnda Cundall and Payton of Gillette, Wyoming, Kali Cundall of Las Vegas, Nevada, Callie Letchworth Scott and Kinsey Letchworth of Omaha, Nebraska, Katie (Trevor) Knaub, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and Farra (Louis) Cleveland of Pinedale, Wyoming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry Gropp, his grandparents, Ingmar and Bertha Shelstad and Ahlburn and Irene Gropp, and many friends.
Memorials may be made for a scholarship for his granddaughter, Piper Rose Schmidt, and mailed to Lusk State Bank at PO Box 1400, Lusk, WY 82225.
