Mrs. C.A. Bryant Called by Death Monday, July 9

The following article, published in the Lusk Free Lance, is courtesy of the Wyoming Newspaper Project.

Following a lingering illness which lasted several months, during which time a number of operations were resorted to in the hope of relief, Mrs. Pearl Amelia Bryant, wife of A. C. Bryant of Hat Creek, passed away at the family ranch home, on Monday, July 9th, at the age of 55 years, 2 months and 19 days.

Mrs. Bryant was one of the most highly respected and loved citizens of the county, and especially so in the Hat Creek vicinity where the family had lived together for the past 22 years. She was taken ill about a year ago and since that time her health had gradually failed until death came as a relief to her sufferings.

Funeral services were conducted at the Congregational church of this city at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Stuart Anderson, pastor, officiating. Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of the Midwest mortuary.

The pallbearers, all staunch friends of the family, were L. H. Shrum, G. D. Percival, John East, Wm. Nelson, Dudley Fields and L. R. Van Tassell.

Pearl Amelia Hunter was born on a farmstead in Clay County, Ia., April 20, 1879. She attended country school until 1893, when she entered Everly high school, graduating in 1895.

She moved with her father's family to Missouri in 1896, where she attended private normal school and soon went to teaching. She finished several successful terms of school and was counselled several times by state officers on adopting better and more modern methods of instruction in rural schools.

She always took an active part in promoting better ways of living and happiness in rural life.

Moving to South Dakota in 1905, she again engaged in teaching until she became married to A. C. Bryant, June 20, 1911, at Wessington Springs, S. D.

Coming to Wyoming in 1912, they took up a homestead 26 miles northeast of Lusk, where two sons were born to their union - Charles and Edward.

Lacking school facilities, as soon as her boys were of school age, she gathered a few neighbors' children and began to instruct them in elementary education.

Born of Pioneer parents, she "dared to lead where none dared to follow." She helped to forge a home from a stubborn soil and an inhospitable climate, always happy and cheerful that she could be useful in promoting the happiness of others and a better land in which to live.

Taking an active part in civic affairs, she became prominent in local and county government.

She affiliated with the Presbyterian church at Alpena, South Dakota, always believing that man should walk upright in the manner our Creator intended us to do. Her life was lived in the theme of the poet when he sang: "We live in deed, Not in years."

Mrs. Bryant passed to her reward on July 9, 1934, age 55 years, 2 months and 19 days.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, A. C. Bryant; two sons, Edward C. and Charles W. of Hat Creek, Wyoming; her mother, Mrs. W. S. Hunter, one brother, Chas. E. Hunter, and two sisters, Myrtle and Olive Hunter, all of Lusk, Wyoming.

She counted her friends by her acquaintances, with few exceptions, and she leaves only fond memories with her loved ones, and the firm hope that they will meet in the better world beyond.

After reviewing such a glorious life, we must repeat with the poet:
"Servant of God, well done!
Thy glorious warfare's past;
The battle's fought, the race is won,
And thou art crowned at last!"
