Florence Godfrey dies

Florence Godfrey, 95, a long-time Lusk business woman died last Thursday, June 25, at the Niobrara hospital.

Florence Bard was born in a log cabin near Big Horn, Wyo., on April 28, 1886. Her father, Charles Bard, was an early pioneer in Wyoming and had come to the state as a buffalo hunter shortly after the Civil War.

Florence and Therman Godfrey were married in 1918 and moved to Lusk where they operated a Ford Garage for over 40 years. Mr. Godfrey died in July, 1970.

Mrs. Godfrey was active in many organizations and was a past grand matron of the Eastern Stars. She was a member of P.E.O., Daughters of the Nile and the Cow Belles.

Funeral service was conducted by Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk Tuesday. The Rev. Frank Blish officiated, and the Order of Eastern Stars conducted a memorial service. Organist was Edna DeCastro. Joy Kaltenheuser sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer."

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Pallbearers were George Dixon, Ab DeCastro, Richard Schnorenberg, Roger Bonsell, L. T. Bonner and Les ZumBrunnen.

She is survived by her son Paul Brad Godfrey, an attorney in Cheyenne, and two grandchildren, Brett Godfrey, who is a junior at the University of Wyoming and Scott Godfrey who is a sophomore at the Colorado School of Mines.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Tode Bard, Dick Bard and Floyd Bard.
