Charley Conrad Krejci

Charley Conrad Krejci, 79, lost his courageous battle with cancer on September 22, 2010. Charley was the youngest son born to James Krejci and Edith Johnson in Denver, Colo. on Aug. 8, 1931. He grew up in Lance Creek and attended country school until the eighth grade. He then worked on the ranch until he was drafted into the Korean War on Aug. 7, 1951. Charley served as a heavy artillery gunner, spending 13 months on the front lines and receiving three battle stars. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on June 3, 1953, at which time he went into the USA Army reserves.

Charley married Ruth Schrader, the love of his life in Gordon, Neb. on Nov. 15, 1954. To this union two sons were born, Leroy Charles Krejci and William James Krejci.

The family bought a farm near Mills, NE, which they still own. They farmed there until they moved back to Lance Creek in 1969 to help Charley's dad on the ranch. Charley was at home on the ranch with his family when he passed away.

Charley was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Henry. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Ruth Krejci (Schrader), son Leroy (Dee) Krejci of Lance Creek and children Kodi and Jarit, son Bill (Connie) Krejci of Lance Creek and children Denise, Eric and Jill.

Funeral services were held Sept. 27, 2010, at Niobrara County Fairgrounds, with Pastor Gary Walker of Lance Creek officiating. Interment with military honors was at the Lusk Cemetery.

Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
