Former Manville Boy Takes Own Life at Billings

H. Dale Covington, son of Mrs. Ellen M. Covington, former Manville residents, took his own life at Billings, Mont., Nov. 14, it has been learned here by friends that knew the family.

The body was found early in the morning in the store room of the Mint Bar, of which Mr. Covington was co-owner. There was a .32-calibre bullet wound in the right temple. Coroner Howard G. Smith listed the death as suicide.

Covington had been despondent because of ill health, after sustaining a spinal injury, Smith said he learned.

Covington went to Billings two years ago from Casper. His mother and a brother, Lyle Covington, both of Billings, survive.

Four other brothers and a foster brother of Covington have met violent deaths. A foster brother, Lee Holmer, was killed in action on Saipan on June 25, 1944; S/Sgt. Louis Covington was killed in action in Germany on April 10, 1945; Ben Covington was killed on April 23, 1939, while working on the Colorado-Big Thompson tunnel in Colorado and Cody Covington was killed on July 29, 1943, while working in a defense plant in Las Vegas, N.M.

Funeral services were held from the Bustard chapel in Casper, November 9. A native of Manville, Wyo., where he was born Feb. 4, 1920, Mr. Covington had been a resident of Casper since 1929. He attended Casper grade schools and graduated from Natrona County High School with the class of 1936. He had resided in Billings during the past two years and eight months, and had been co-owner of the Mint Bar in that city.
