JAMES BRIDGE SUCCUMBS TO ATTACK OF FLU

Well-Known Manville Man, Ill Only Short Time; Funeral Services Held Monday Afternoon

The community of Manville and vicinity was shocked by the passing on last Thursday afternoon, December 22, at 4:00 o'clock, of James Bridge, well-known and long-time resident of that community.

Mr. Bridge was ill only a short time with an attack of influenza.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with Rev. Sears of the Manville Methodist Church officiating. Burial was made in the Manville Cemetery under arrangements by the Peet Mortuary.

The services at the grave were conducted by the Lusk post of the American Legion. The firing squad and the color guard was composed of members of the Lusk unit of National Guard, under command of Sergeant John Thon.

A beautiful service was held at the church, the music being by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Howard, Ras Baughn, Mrs. Geo. Schmer and Edna Howard DeCastro.

James Bridge was born on August 29, 1895, at St. Labory, Nebraska.

He was united in marriage with Anna Osborn on June 15, 1930, at Denver, Colo.

He leaves to mourn his loss his mother, Mrs. Anna Bridge of Manville; his wife and two young daughters; two sisters, Mrs. Jane Calvin and Mrs. Hattie Stallman of Manville; four brothers, Pete and Frank of Manville; Charles of North Loup, Neb.; Roy of Valley, Neb. His father and three brothers had preceded him out of this life.

He entered the world war in June, 1918. He received injuries in the service and since that time had been in very poor health.

The funeral service was held in the Manville M. E. church, conducted by the pastor, J. E. Sears. The Scripture lesson read was mark 4:35-40; the text from verse 39 constituted the theme, "Peace Be Still." Rev. Sears paid a beautiful tribute to the decease.

"Our need is a great peace," said the minister. "There can be no peace without good will based upon understanding and honor. One by one we lay away the bodies of Legionnaires because the opposite of peace and good will called them to arms. Today we lay away another soldier who should still be enjoying, perhaps, his full natural vigor; but, instead, became a victim of the system which Jesus came to destroy and replace with his own system. For James Bridge has come the order, 'Cease firing.'

"Analogous to the storm on Galilee are the storms of life. Sometimes to the waves of the storms of life Jesus speaks the text, 'Peace Be Still,' and there is a great calm. Mere stillness or silence is not necessarily peace. Some, even in the horrible din of war, were at peace within; for the Master had given to them and left with them, His peace. Jesus, in describing eternal life, spoke from John 17:3. The consciousness of these two great lovers of men can bring peace to the heart in war, in poverty and in times like this, when we must say good-bye on earth to those who have shared and sweetened our lives."

The minister closed his tribute to the deceased by quoting Tennyson's "Crossing the Bar."
