Last Rites for W. L. Rymill Held in Torrington Sunday

Walter L. Rymill, 51, one of the most popular Hereford cattle breeders in Eastern Wyoming, and prominent rancher of the Jay Em vicinity, died Wednesday afternoon, October 24, at the Methodist Hospital in Scottsbluff.

Funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian Church in Torrington on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.

The Travis Snow Post No. 5 of the American Legion of Torrington had charge of the services at the cemetery.

Many friends from Lusk and Jay Em vicinity attended these services.

Rymill had not been well for the past year, but attended his fall sale of registered Herefords on October 9 and entered the hospital the following day, passing away exactly two weeks later.

Walter was the son of Samuel and Mary Rymill. He was born near Homer, Neb. May 8, 1894, the youngest of ten children. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and four sisters and one brother. Surviving are his wife, Mildred; one son, Lorain, a daughter, Shirley, all of whom reside on the ranch near Jay Em; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Rathbun, of Cheney, Washington, and Mrs. Amy Hogan of Mankato, Minnesota; and two brothers, Arthur Rymill of Homer, Neb., and Robert Rymill of Fort Laramie, Wyo.

Walter attended grade and high school at Homer, Neb., and during his boyhood attended the Methodist Church and Sunday School there.

In 1914 he came to Wyoming and homesteaded with his mother and brothers, Roy and Robert, at the present ranch site.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1917 and served in the first World War. After discharge in 1919 he bought out the brothers in the ranching business and started to build up a Registered herd of Hereford cattle, which has grown to be one of the outstanding herds in Eastern Wyoming. He was also a lover and breeder of fine horses.

On February 26, 1922, he was married to Miss Mildred Robbins of Lewellyn, Neb.

Active in Hereford circles, he was a member of the American Hereford Association and had shown livestock all over the State and in the Great Western stock show. He had been a 4-H Club leader for the past 14 years and served over 10 years as superintendent of livestock exhibits at the Goshen County Fair, being principally concerned with exhibits of cattle and horses.

He was a member of Derk J. Wieten Post No. 4 of the American Legion at Lusk and active in public enterprises for the betterment of the community.

He loved flowers and appreciated the beauties of nature, with the result that he improved his ranch yard and home until it was outstandingly attractive.

He was a loving, devoted and generous husband and father, always ready and willing to help his friends and neighbors. He always had a ready smile and cheerful joking words for everyone.

Besides his wife, children and other relatives, he leaves a host of friends to mourn his early and untimely death.
