Again and yet again the long list of war casualties reach into even our small communities.

Two more young men of this area have been listed among those killed, according to word received by their families from the War Department during the past week. They are Pvt. Robert H. Kraft of Whitman and Lloyd Seifert of Harrison.

(The portion of the article about Robert Kraft are included on his obituary page)

Lloyd Seifert Perishes in Waters of the Pacific

The other, who it is presumed, perished in the waters of the Pacific, is Lloyd Seifert, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Seifert of Lusk, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Seifert of Harrison. He was among the prisoners on one of the Japanese ships which was sunk by our men several months ago and is reported among the prisoners missing.

It is understood that he was taken prisoner when Corregidor fell and was among those on the crowded prison ships which were being moved to Japan. Our men had no way of knowing that those Japanese ships carried American prisoners of war and it was not until after they were attacked and sunk that the tragic discovery was made. The names of the prisoners lost was reported thru Red Cross channels.
