Dogie Rancher is Found Dead in Home Saturday

Michael W. Reeves, aged about 78 years, was found dead in his cabin near Dogie, Wyoming last Saturday May 28th by Joe O'Brien, a neighbor in that community. He had evidently been dead for several days as the body was in a badly decomposed condition.

Reeves was last seen alive last Tuesday, the 24th of May, when Mr. O'Brien, who was on a deal to lease the Reeves place, called at the homestead and talked to the owner for some time. He was sowing grain by hand at the time of O'Brien's visit but said he intended to go after some horses, which trip would take him a day or two. However, Wednesday evening when O'Brien rode over to the cabin and called no one answered and the place looked deserted O'Brien did not dismount from his horse, thinking that Mr. Reeves had not returned from the trip which he had mentioned.

Saturday evening he again went to the ranch and this time pushed open the door of the cabin, which was not tightly closed and at once saw the form lying on a cot in the room. He ascertained that the man was dead and then rode 35 miles to the nearest telephone to notify Sheriff D. A. Shoopman and Coroner Earl Peet.

The Sheriff and coroner left Lusk about 1 a.m. and returned at 8 with the remains. The Coroner's verdict was that death was due to natural causes, the deceased likely having suffered a heart attack after working in the field on the previous Tuesday.

The deceased is survived by two sons, John and Charles, and one daughter, Mrs. James, all of Crawford, Nebraska. They were notified and came at once to Lusk.

Funeral services were held at the Lusk cemetery at five o'clock Monday evening with Rev. George Jenkins officiating. The funeral arrangements were in charge of the Peet Mortuary.
