Steven Allan Mangler

CASPER - A private family service for former Casper resident Steven Allan Mangler, 54, of Rock Springs, will be held at a later date.

Cremation will have taken place under the direction of Vase Funeral Chapel of Rock Springs.

He died Jan. 30, 2006, at his home, after a courageous battle with emphysema.

Born June 19, 1951, in Worland, he was the son of Alberta (Osborn) and Donald Mangler; and was raised and educated in Casper.

At an early age, he was taught by his father to drive oilfield winch trucks. He became a lifelong truck driver and was employed by numerous oilfield and over-the-road trucking companies based out of Wyoming. Ill health forced his retirement three years ago.

He married Dixie Hobbs in Casper. They were the parents of a son and a daughter; and, later, divorced.

He married Bonnie Brammer in Casper and they, too, divorced.

His third wife was Cynthia Allen, who he married in Edgemont, S.D. They were the parents of a daughter. His wife preceded him in death in 2001.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and Tony Stewart was his favorite driver. Also, he enjoyed sprint-car racing with his friend, Mark. He loved playing the bass guitar; and, in his younger years, sang in two different bands. His favorite pastime was going to local truck stops to have coffee and swap gossip with his friends.

Survivors include his mother of Casper; two sisters and their husbands, Carol Mangler-Minchow and Gloria Bertagnole of Casper; three children, Donnie Mangler of Portland, Ore., Raetta Nollner of Wasilla, Alaska, and Harley Rose Mangler of Rawlins; two grandsons; two granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Mark Sweet of Rock Springs.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
