Funeral Service for B. J. Ankeney Are Held

Funeral services for Burley J. Ankeney, 59, formerly of Manville and lately of Upton, were held at the Upton Methodist Church January 31. The Rev. Peter Goodfellow, pastor of the Episcopal Church in Sundance, officiated at the service and interment was in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of McColley Funeral Home of Newcastle.

Alma Hagerman and Cecil Reynolds sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sundset", accompanied by Mary Alice Griffis, organist.

Casket bearers were David Gilmer, Currie Griffis, Earl Hagerman, Gene Briggs, Tony Briggs, and Luther Pringle, all of Upton. Masonic rites at the graveside were conducted by Upton Lodge No. 38.

Ankeney died January 26 from a heart attack suffered at his ranch home near Upton. He was the son of Anna and George Ankeney, born January 3, 1897 at Milford, Ia. He was a veteran of World War I, having served one year in the Army and two years in the Navy.

April 22, 1924 he married Minnie M. Kettler, sister of Fred Kettler of Manville. They lived in Nebraska and Manville before moving to Upton 15 years ago where they have resided since.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Wemeke, of Cody and a son, B. J. Ankeney, of the home, one grandchild, three sisters, one half-sister and two brothers.
