Charles Worthen Dies Suddenly on Tuesday Last

The family and friend of Charles Worthen was greatly shocked on Tuesday night last to hear that he had passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. A. D. Reed. He had been in apparently good health until the day of his death. Had been working at his trade of painting and paper hanging up to the night before his death.

On Tuesday morning he walked into his sister's home unassisted, but shortly after entering became quite ill. A physician was summoned and all possible done to keep him here but to no avail. For hours physician and friends worked over him, loath to give him up as his pulse and heart seemed active after every other sign of death was apparent. He quietly slipped out to the other shore, however, shortly after nine o'clock Tuesday evening, cerebral hemorrhage, being the cause of his sudden demise.

Charles A. Worthen was born in Reedsville, Ohio, in 1872. He came to Wyoming about fifteen years ago and has lived part of that time in Lusk and part of the time on his ranch near Guernsey. he leaves behind, one brother, Wm. Worthen, of Arkansas and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Nation, of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Mrs. A. D. Reed of Lusk. Those who will miss his most, however, are his wife, three daughters and a young son, who are left to face life without him, to whom we extend our sympathy in their hour of trial The body was laid to rest in the Lusk cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Note: The birth date was matched to the gravestone. According to research, Charles was married to Nora Sullivan on September 16, 1899, in Morgan, Missouri. In 1920 their children included Letta May, 18, Bonnita Alice, 15, Frank R., 13, and Ena Marie, 7. The mother of Charles was Lanah H. (Barber) Worthen, Feb. 1844 - 1909), the daughter of Adam and Lena Barber, who was born in Pennsylvania. She is buried in the Lusk Cemetery next to Barber family members.
