Carol Vickers Barton

A celebration of the life of Carol Vickers Barton was held December 31, 2003, at the Upton United Methodist Church in Upton, with the Rev. Gene Hagerman and Joe Spencer officiating. burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Upton.

Carol Barton died December 27, 2003, at her home, surrounded by her family, following a long battle against heart, lung, and arterial disease.

Carol was born Ruby Carolea Moore on June 5, 1935, near Upton to Joseph Tate Moore and Lenore (King) Moore. Carol grew up in and around Newcastle and Custer, S.D.

In 1951 she married Harry Vickers of Newcastle. They were married for over 20 years and had three children, divorcing in 1975.

Among other avocations throughout her life, Carol worked as a dental assistant, director of Michael's Senior Center, activities director of the Weston County Manor, and owner of a ladies clothing store in Newcastle, the Fashion Castle.

Later she moved to Upton to live with her new husband, Bill L. Barton. Together they enjoyed traveling and driving over much of the United states. They were actively involved in public service on the community and state level.

Carol was a member of the Wyoming Republican Women's Club, and was elected several times as precinct committeewoman and State Republican Central Committeewoman. She was a member of the Upton United Methodist Church. She especially enjoyed fashions, needlework and quilting.

Carol is survived by her husband Bill. L. Barton of Upton; son Wayne Vickers of Newcastle; daughters Connie Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gale Geringer of Cheyenne; stepdaughters, Ginger Jespersen and Donna Kennedy, both of Upton; stepson, Bill V. Barton, of Upton; a sister Glenda LeJune of Lansing, Iowa; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Alfred Moore and stepson Douglas Barton.

Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral chapel of Sundance was in charge of arrangements.
