Bryan Lee Brost, 79, of Lusk died Dec. 14 from COVID-19.

He was born in Alliance, Neb. Feb. 2, 1941. The son of Christy Brost and Ruth Hutchinson Brost, Bryan was raised with his six brothers and two sisters in Lusk and Alliance, Neb. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1959 and joined the Peace Corps in 1964, where he traveled to Iran to assist with agricultural development.

He graduated from Chadron State College in 1967 with a Bachelor Degree in Education. He then taught high school and middle school science and math in Bridgeport, Neb., and Sheridan. In 1970, he spent six months traveling and substitute teaching in Brazil. His greatest adventure during that time was traveling into the jungles by boat up the Amazon and the Rio Negro and its tributaries.

Bryan married Kate Peters in 1972 in Custer, S.D., and settled on the family farm near Alliance, Neb., where they raised wheat, cattle and seven children together. In 1979, Bryan, along with his father and three of his brothers, purchased the Box X ranch outside of Lusk, where the family had lived when he was born. Bryan and his family managed the Nebraska farm and the Wyoming ranch for more than 20 years. During that time, Bryan also enjoyed teaching math and science at Alliance Middle School. In 1999, Bryan and Kate moved to Lusk, where he continued ranching and she taught elementary school in Lance Creek.

Bryan and Kate ranched, taught and enjoyed time with their seven children and 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bryan loved his immediate and extended family immensely. He attended every event he could – not only for his children and grandchildren but also for his siblings, nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and countless cousins near and far.

Bryan died from COVID-19 at Cheyenne Regional Hospital.
