Ruby Umphenour Dies at Home of Aunt in Kansas

Little 11-year-old Ruby Umphenour died at Hudson, Kan., last Wednesday afternoon at the home of an aunt.

Her father, M.J. Umphenour, is working in Casper. Mrs. Umphenour left Monday evening of last week in response to a telegram stating that Ruby was seriously ill. She lived only a few hours after her mother's arrival.

The little girl attended the Lusk schools last winter. The following is taken from a newspaper of Hudson, Kan.:

Ruby Annetta Umphenour was born at Hutchinson, Kan., July 28, 1911, where she resided with her parents until she was three years old. They then left for Harrison, Nebr., which was their home until in 1915. At this time the family moved to Lusk, Wyoming.

On the 13th of May Ruby came to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Henry of Hudson, Kan. She proved herself willing to help in any way that she could and by  her pleasant and cheerful manner won her way into the hearts of those around her. She was very fond of music and the song "The Holy City" was her favorite. She had just recently succeeded in learning it herself.

Some time ago Ruby was ill with typhoid fever and although she had seemingly recovered from the effects, she became suddenly ill about two weeks ago. It was found that she was suffering from an abscess, a condition resulting from typhoid. On Monday afternoon she was moved from the Clarence Henry home to Butler Bros. hospital at Stafford, where she underwent an operation; however, little hope was expressed by attending physicians for her recovery and on Wednesday afternoon at 5:25 p.m. she passed away at the age of 11 years and 18 days.

Those who are left to mourn her early departure are: her mother, Mrs. M.J. Umphenour, her father, M.J. Umphenour, two brothers, Rex and Jay. One brother preceded her in death on June 22, 1917. Also her grandparents, Mr. and Mr. Eluwood Clark of Hudson, Kan., a great-grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Clark, her uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Henry as well as many other relatives and friends.
