"Mose" Cooksey long-time Nio. Rancher Dies

Funeral service for C. R. "Mose" Cooksey, long-time Niobrara County rancher, was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the McColley Funeral Home in Newcastle with Bryan Clark officiating.

Interment was in the Edgemont Cemetery, Edgemont, S.D.

Mr. Cooksey died at the Weston County Memorial Hospital December 26.

C. R. Cooksey was born May 8, 1893, at Hamburg, Iowa, to H. H. and Mary Jane Cooksey. He served in the U. S. Army during World War I.

He met Irene Bennett while she was teaching school at Dewey, S. D., and they were married on her parent's ranch, south of Hay Springs, Neb., June 16, 1920. They made their home on the present Cooksey ranch, 31 miles south of Newcastle, for 53 years.

During the past 20 years he specialized in raising registered Appaloosa horses and registered Corridale sheep.

He is survived by his wife Irene; one son, John Cooksey, Casper, one daughter, Mrs. George (Mary J.) Christensen, Riverton, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, one brother, Hank of Sacramento, Calif.

His parents, 8 sisters and two brothers died previously.
