DEATH NOTICE

Funeral service for Carrie Jean Prell, 87, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel in Douglas.

Carrie Prell passed at her home in Douglas on Monday, January 8, 2024, surrounded by family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Carrie's Memorial Fund in care of Converse County Bank or to the Laramie Peak Humane Society.

Funeral service for Carrie Jean Prell, 87, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel in Douglas, Wyoming with Pastor Sara Phillippi of The Gathering officiating.

Carrie Prell passed at her home in Douglas on Monday, January 8, 2024, surrounded by family.

Carrie was born Tuesday, December 22, 1936 to Scott Wayne and Esther Ella (Townsend) Sides in Lance Creek, Wyoming. She grew up in the Rochelle community and attended Manville High School. Carrie was the third daughter of seven. She met Gale Prell at a dance in Lance Creek in April, 1953 and they married August 27, 1953. To this marriage five children were born, Myron Lynn “Mike”, Debra Jean “Debbi”, Willa Gayle, Lisa Faye, and Ronda Kay.

They lived in Lance Creek, Lusk, and Newcastle and moved to Douglas in 1962. She worked for Safeway, First National Bank, Charlie George, and Converse County Bank. After leaving Converse County Bank she went to work as a greeter and bookkeeper for the Pioneer Museum for ten plus years.

Carrie was a people person and loved to go to her sorority group and even got several recognitions. She was an avid reader with love stories being her favorite. She participated in a bowling league and was on a softball team. She loved to sew napkins and clothes for her kids and granddaughters. She also made Halloween costumes for her grandson, Brandon. Carrie and Willa worked on crafts and attended craft fairs for many years. She was always the bookkeeper from a young age until dementia took it away from her.

She is survived by her son, Myron of Arizona; daughters, Debbi Hollenbeck and Ronda Prell of Douglas; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild due in May; sisters, Nora Johnson of Williston, North Dakota and Donna Murray of Blackduck, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

Carrie was preceded in death by her father, Scott Sides, on October 11, 1974; mother, Esther Selby, on June 2, 1985; husband, Gale, on November 9, 1983; four sisters, Ella Marie Ward, infant Myra Lea Sides, Evelyn Sides, and Bonnie Heth; and daughters, Lisa Hilderbrand, June 13, 2016, and Willa Green on November 22, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Carrie’s Memorial Fund in care of Converse County Bank, P.O. Box 689, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 or to the Laramie Peak Humane Society, P.O. Box 463, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
