Deborah "Deb" Kay Scott

Deborah Kay “Deb” Scott, age 73, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at Prairie Pines Extended Care Facility in Lusk, Wyoming. Up until the end, Deb maintained her kindness, compassion, and deep love of family and friends, and gratitude for a life filled with wonderful and varied experiences.
Deb was born August 13, 1952, in Havre, Montana, and was raised by Darlene and Arthur Renzelman and Harold Wilmes. She grew up and attended school in California and Wyoming, graduating from Niobrara County High School in 1970. During her school years, Deb held several jobs, including car hop, waitress, and babysitter.
On July 31, 1970, at just 17 years old, Deb married the love of her life, Danny Scott. Together, they raised two daughters, Danielle and Dawn. The family lived briefly in Montana and Glenrock, Wyoming, before settling in Lusk, Wyoming, where they lived for over 50 years.
Deb worked in various fields throughout her life. She held positions at several different businesses, including Coast to Coast Hardware, Lusk Headstart, The Diner, Crazy Charlie’s Cafe, Deb’s Daycare, The Pizza Place, and Niobrara County School District. It was at Niobrara County School District that she discovered her true passion for working with children. As a paraprofessional, she inspired generations of students to think critically and pursue their dreams, retiring in 2021 after 35 years.
In retirement, Deb continued her lifelong hobbies of crocheting, sewing, needlework, and general crafting, as well as reading. She was always more than willing to teach anyone who was interested in learning to crochet. In her life, she made hundreds of afghans to give to her students, friends, and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Darlene and Arthur Renzelman, and Harold Wilmes; her husband, Danny; and her brother, Ron Wilmes. She is survived by her daughters, Danielle Byers (Rob) and Dawn Scott (Justin Collins), and her grandchildren, Olivia Byers (Hunter Taylor) and Ian Byers. Brother James Renzelman (Lana). She is also survived by special family members who called her “Nanny”: Stephaine Scott, Camdon Fitzwater, Shatto Smith, Shilo Goad, Tatum Stallman, and Talan Stallman. She is also survived by many other family members and friends.
Deb will be remembered for her lifelong commitment to education, her beautiful craft work, and her deep love for her family and friends.
Services to be held at the Lusk Congregational Church, 120 5th Ave, Lusk, Wyoming 82225, on Friday, February 6th, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
