Will Garrett Johnson, age 38, of Douglas, Wyoming, passed away on
Friday, July 17, 2026, in Casper, Wyoming. A Memorial Service will be
held at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds Auditorium on Sunday, August 2,
2026, at 2:00 pm.

Will Garrett Johnson passed away on July 17, 2026, in Casper, Wyoming, after a well-fought battle with cancer.
A native of Niobrara County, he was born in Torrington on July 18, 1987, to Artie and Sandra (Steben) Johnson and came home to the Johnson family ranch in Lance Creek. He attended Lance Creek School for 6 years and then continued his education at Lusk Elementary Middle School and Niobrara County High School. In 2002, Will and his family moved to a place north of Lusk, where his mom still resides.

Will was an avid athlete at NCHS, participating in football, basketball, and track. 4-H was also a big part of Will’s life, he was an eleven-year member and in those years, he showed cattle, did wood working, and photography. He was also on several judging teams during that time. After graduating in 2006 from high school, Will attended Casper College obtaining an associates degree in welding in 2009.

Will went to work for Miller Enterprises in Douglas after graduation, spending some time in North Dakota and many other sites in Wyoming. He would spend time at home helping hay in between jobs.

In 2021, Will realized his dream of becoming a hay farmer when he purchased the Daiss farm southwest of Lingle. For the next several years, he worked on the farm transforming it by installing pivots and refinishing the houses on the farm. He was happiest while he was baling his certified hay and putting up most summers, 4 cuttings in his hay shed. John Deere tractors were his choice of equipment. Will continued to work welding jobs in the winter and between cuttings on the farm.

Will was an old soul, never knew a stranger, he loved to visit and made many, many friends over the years on different jobs. Will’s attention to detail and work ethic were second to none, he had a contagious laugh and under all of that gruff, blunt, hardness he was one of the kindest guys around. Although he didn’t have kids of his own, he was an uncle to so many kids. Will worked hard and played harder. He would never ask for help, but he would always be the first one to help you and expected nothing in return. He will be missed, but he will never be forgotten.

Survivors include his mom, Sandra of Lusk, brothers Trent of Lusk and Taylor and Breanne (nieces Oakley Tae and Kelbi Anne), all of Casper, Grandmother Shirley Steben, Uncles Randy(Twila) Steben, Mike(Charlotte) Steben all of Torrington, Aunts Vicki Pinneo(Ken) of Wheatland, and Debbie Millard of Cody. Cousins Tyrell Steben, Roxanne(Michael) Jolovich, Shannon(Jason) Baldwin, all of Torrington, Jake(Hunter) Steben of Castle Rock, Blake Steben of Laramie, Matthew Pinneo of Alliance, and Daniel Pinneo of Wheatland.

Great nieces and nephews Trevor and Kamryn Jolovich, Zoe and Axel Baldwin, Laine, Hadlee, Coralie Steben of Torrington, and Tinlee & Kaysen of Alliance. Best friends Brian and Kiley Kocher (Kaysen, Turkey and Peanut) of Douglas.

Will was preceded in death by his father, Artie Johnson, paternal Grandparents Don and Gloria Johnson and maternal Grandfather Roger Steben.

Celebration of Life will be held at Niobrara County Fairgrounds Auditorium on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 2:00 pm. Memorials in Will’s memory may be made to a scholarship for a high school senior majoring in welding.
