Irene S. Curtin

Funeral Mass for Irene S. Curtin, 74, was held Monday, December 18 at St. Francis Catholic Church with Father Michael Ehiemere, Celebrant. Burial was in Douglas, Tuesday, at the Douglas Cemetery. Rosary was recited Sunday evening at the church.

Mrs. Curtin passed away suddenly at her residence, Tuesday, December 12, 2000.

She was born October 20, 1926 in Douglas, Wyoming, the daughter of John P. and Jessie (Burkart) Seimsen (Siemsen). She attended grade school in both Lusk and Ft. Laramie.

Following graduation from Lusk High School in 1944 as Valedictorian, she worked at the Boeing Aircraft Field in Seattle, Wash., for the summer. She attended the University of Wyoming for two years starting in 1945, then taught school in Douglas for two years.

On August 16, 1948, she married Francis W. (Diddy) Curtin in Lusk. Mrs. Curtin worked for a short time with the Converse County Treasurer's office but eventually returned to teaching.

She completed her bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Wyoming in 1960 while also teaching in Douglas. After 17 years of teaching in Douglas, Mr. and Mrs. Curtin moved to Thermopolis where they had purchased a package liquor store. Mrs. Curtin taught in the elementary school for 17 years until her retirement in 1986. During retirement, she helped with the family business and dedicated herself to her family.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and was a board member of Hot Springs County Library. She enjoyed playing bridge, crossword puzzles, crafts, reading, knitting and watching her grandchildren grow.

She is survived by two sons, Pat and wife, Patty of Thermopolis, and John and wife, Janice, of Vancouver, Wash.; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1996, parents and one brother.
