Dale DeHaven

Funeral services for Dale DeHaven, age 79, of Harrison, Nebr., were held Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in Harrison with Reverend Henrietta Stemley officiating. Burial followed at the Harrison City Cemetery. Chamberlain Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. DeHaven died Nov. 29 at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, Nebr. He was born Jan. 5, 1925 to Delbert and Frances Hill DeHaven. He began school at the Panhandle School and later moved with his family to Wyoming where his father was employed in road construction. He attended several schools in Wyoming, including LaGrange and Torrington where he graduated from the eighth grade.

The family moved back to Harrison in 1939, where he graduated from Sioux County High School. He married Willadell Koch and they were the parents of one daughter, Charlene Baker.

Dale worked at Fort Robinson for five years, ran the Harrison Dry Cleaners for five years and did construction work with Guy Hanson before working in Lusk as a bookkeeper for two car dealerships; Burge Motors and Lusk Motors.

In 1956, he began working at the Sioux County Courthouse, first in the county clerk's office and later in the county treasurer's office. He was appointed Sioux County Treasurer in 1961 and held that position for 37 years.

Dale was a member of the Harrison Methodist Church and served as its treasurer for 22 years. He enjoyed sports and played on the town basketball team for many years with his brother Richard. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Charlene and Bill Baker of Harrison; three grandchildren, Barbara Baker of Lusk, Michael and Valerie Baker of Alliance, Nebr., and Neil and Stacy Baker of Bayard, Nebr.; six great grandchildren, Bethany, Megan, Rachel, Lindsey, Joel and Ryan Baker; his brother Richard and wife Rita DeHaven and sister Ellen Powell, all of Chadron; five nieces and two nephews.
