The film, The Kite Runner will be shown on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the library. Based on the bestselling book by Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner is a powerful tale of friendship and betrayal that takes viewers from the final days of Afghanistan’s monarchy to the atrocities of the Taliban reign. Rated PG-13 and in Dari and English with subtitles this film is 122 minutes. We’ll provide the popcorn so be sure to plan to attend.

A new fiction book for adults is “Charley’s Web” by Joy Fielding. Charley Webb is forever stirring up controversy with her newspaper column. When she is asked to write a biography of a notorious female serial killer, she sees it as a chance to take her career to the next level. However, she is unprepared for the emotional toll the endeavor will extract.

Other new fiction books are “The Anatomy of Deception” by Lawrence Goldstone, “A Stranger’s Game” by Joan Johnston, “Blind Fall” by Christopher Rice, “The Dark Tide” by Andrew Gross and “My Heart Remembers” by Kim Vogel Sawyer.

New adult non-fiction books are “When Mars and Venus Collide: Improving Relationships by Understanding How Men and Women Cope Differently with Stress” by John Gray, Ph. D., “Beyond the Rangeland Conflict: Toward a West That Works” by Dan Daggett and “On Becoming an Alchemist: a Guide for the Modern Magician” by Catherine MacCoun.

A new young adult book is “The Final Warning: a Maximum Ride novel” by James Patterson.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books “The Willoughbys” by Lois Lowry and “Andy Shane and the Pumpkin Trick” by Jennifer Richard Jacobson.


“May Flowers” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 and Thursday, May 1, 2008. Storyhour is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
