“Celebrating Niobrara County” is the theme for the upcoming August 7 event to be held on the library lawn! The Niobrara County Library Foundation, Inc. recently announced that the Wyoming Public Endowment Challenge goal of $98,550 has been reached and everyone is invited to attend this outdoor event. The celebration will begin at 6 p.m. and Americana performer Kerry Grombacher will entertain at 7 p.m., an outdoor film showing will follow. Refreshments will be served, be sure to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Kerry Grombacher plays guitar and mandolin and writes and performs contemporary folk and western songs. In the spirit of the troubadours of old, he paints vivid portraits and tells fascinating stories that are set in the landscape where he’s worked and toured, from his home on New Orleans’ Bayou St. John to the desert Southwest, and up to Montana and the Northwest forests. This program is brought to you by the Niobrara County Library Foundation, Inc. and Bank of the West. For more information call the library at 334-3490.

New on the fiction shelf is “Secrets She Left Behind” by Diane Chamberlain. One afternoon single mother Sara Weston went to the store and never returned. She left her teenage son, Keith, alone with his damaged past, a legacy of secrets and his closest relative, his half-sister, Maggie who was recently released from spending a year in prison. Call the library to reserve this intriguing title.

Other new fiction includes “Shanghai Girls” by Lisa See, “Medusa” by Clive Cussler, “Matters of the Heart” by Danielle Steel, “Nightwalkers” by P. T. Deutermann, “The First Time” by Joy Fielding and “Fugitive” by Phillip Margolin.

New non-fiction books are: “Thunder Over the Prairie: the True Story of a Murder and a Manhunt by the Greatest Posse of All Time” by Howard Kazanjian, “Excuses Begone!: How to Change Lifelong, Self-Defeating Thinking Habits” by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer and “Sugar-Free, Gluten-Free Baking and Desserts” by Kelly E. Keough.

New books for young adults are “Yearbook” by Allyson Braithwaite Condie and “The Secret Journal of Brett Colton” by Kay Lynn Magnum.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new books “Thea, the Thursday Fairy” by Daisy Meadows and “Poppy’s Return” by Avi. New picture books are “Finding Nemo” by Caleb Burroughs, “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” by Sue Dicicco and “Catfish Kate and the Sweet Swamp Band” by Sarah Weeks.

"Color Fun!" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, August 4 and Thursday, August 6. Storyhour is held on Tuesday and Thursday throughout the year from from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
