The final Around Wyoming film, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” will be shown on Monday, December 14 at 6 p.m. A light meal will be served and discussion will be facilitated by Deane Tucker, Chadron State College Professor of Humanities. Cable worker, Roy Neary, who along with several other stunned bystanders experience a close encounter of the first kind – witnessing UFOs soaring across the sky. Neary has a strange vision and becomes obsessed, much to the dismay of his wife and family. Meanwhile bizarre occurrences are happening around the world. Roy continues to chase his vision to a remote area where he and government agents will have a close encounter of the third kind – contact. The film is rated PG and is approximately 135 minutes. Just in time for the holidays is Garrison Keillor’s newest book is “A Christmas Blizzard.” This is a wry, witty story about an unhappy traveler. He had plans to go to Hawaii for Christmas, but then he is summoned to North Dakota because of an ailing aunt. He arrives in time to get trapped by a blizzard without any electricity and finds himself on a journey of rediscovery. Be sure to check out all of the holiday books!

Other new fiction books include “A Change of Altitude” by Anita Shreve, “The Christmas Cookie Club” by Ann Pearlman, “Storm Cycle” by Iris Johansen, “Plum Pudding Murder” by Joanne Fluke, “Pursuit of Honor” by Vince Flynn and “An Echo in the Bone” by Diana Gabaldon.

New non-fiction books are “How to Raise a Drug-Free Kid: Straight Dope for Parents” by Joseph A. Califano, Jr., “Most Evil: Avenger, Zodiac, and the Further Serial Murders of Dr. George Hill Hodel” by Steve Hodel and “Guinness World Record Book of Records 2010."

New for the young adults is “Hold Still” by Nina LaCour.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new books: “The Blizzard of Blue Mountains” by Kristina Gregory, “Say Cheese and Die Screaming” by R.L. Stine and “The Case of the Dinosaur Birds” by John R. Erickson. Also available are “Diego Saves Christmas” by Alexis Romay, “Say “Ahhhh!: Dora Goes to the Doctor” by Phoebe Beinstein and “Secret Crush” by Kate Egan.

"Deck the Halls" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, December 8 and Thursday, December 10. Storyhour is held on Tuesday and Thursday throughout the year from from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
