A new book, based closely on real people and real events by Jane Kirkpatrick is "The Daughter’s Walk." In 1896 Norwegian-American, Helga Estby accepted a wager of $10,000 from the fashion industry in an effort to get the money they needed to save the family farm. The wager: walk from Spokane, Washington to New York City within 7 months. Taking along her 19-year-old daughter, Clara, the two make the 7000 mile trek by following the railroad tracks and promote a new, shorter dress for women. Fans of historical fiction will enjoy this novel.
